UNFAMILIAR HEROES—PART 6 “GET READY FOR A MIRACLE!” Pastor Andy Shaffer—October 1, 2017   A miracle is something only God can do! Types of Miracles:
    • Supernatural miracles
    • Life-changing miracles
Psalm 86:10 (LB)—“For you are great and do great miracles. You alone are God
To Get Ready For A Miracle I Have To
    • Live With Determination!
    II Kings 2:1-6
—“When the Lord was about to take Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Stay here; the Lord has sent me to Bethel.’
But Elisha said, ‘As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.’ So they went down to Bethel…Then Elijah said to him, ‘Stay here, Elisha; the Lord has sent me to Jericho.’ And he replied, ‘As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.’ So they went to Jericho…Then Elijah said to him, ‘Stay here; the Lord has sent me to the Jordan.’ And he replied, ‘As surely as the Lord lives and as you live, I will not leave you.’ So the two of them walked on.”
    • Live With Sensitivity!
    II Kings 2:3
—“The company of the prophets at Bethel came out to Elisha and asked, ‘Do you know that the Lord is going to take your master from you today?’
‘Yes, I know,’ Elisha replied, ‘but do not speak of it.’”
    • Live With Purity!
    II Kings 2:7-10
—“Fifty men from the company of the prophets went and stood at a distance, facing the place where Elijah and Elisha had stopped at the Jordan. Elijah took his cloak, rolled it up and struck the water with it. The water divided to the right and to the left, and the two of them crossed over on dry ground. When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, ‘Tell me, what can I do for you before I am taken from you?’
‘Let me inherit a double portion of your spirit,’ Elisha replied. ‘You have asked a difficult thing,’ Elijah said, ‘yet if you see me when I am taken from you, it will be yours—otherwise, not.’”         Purity is a single-minded ambition to do something great for God!     II Timothy 2:22—“Flee the evil desires of youth and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart
    • We Run Away
    • We Run Toward
    • We Run With
Matthew 5:8—“Blessed are the pure in heart
, for they will see God.”
        II Kings 2:11-14
—“As they were walking along and talking together, suddenly a chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and separated the two of them, and Elijah went up to heaven in a whirlwind. Elisha saw this and cried out, ‘My father! My father! The chariots and horsemen of Israel!’ And Elisha saw him no more. Then he took hold of his own clothes and tore them apart. He picked up the cloak that had fallen from Elijah and went back and stood on the bank of the Jordan. Then he took the cloak that had fallen from him and struck the water with it. ‘Where now is the Lord, the God of Elijah?’ he asked. When he struck the water, it divided to the right and to the left, and he crossed over.”

“I’VE GOT THE POWER!” Pastor Andy Shaffer August 13, 2017   John 14:16-17 (CEV)—“Then I will ask the Father to send you the Holy Spirit who will help you and always be with you. The Spirit will show you what is true…and will keep on living in you.”   What We Believe: “Baptism in the Holy Spirit is obtained by an act of faith on the part of the believer, and the fruit of this experience is clearly described in Galatians 5:22-23. In Acts 1:8 the Word of God declares the primary purpose of this experience—the empowerment of the believer to be an effective witness (Luke 11:13; Acts 1:5; 2:14; 8:17; 10:44-46; 19:6).”   Ephesians 5:18 (NLT)—“Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.”   I Need To Be Filled With The Holy Spirit Because
    • God Wants Me To Be Filled!
Ephesians 5:18 (NLT)—“Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.”
    • The Holy Spirit Empowers Me!
John 15:5—“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”   Philippians 4:13 (LB)—“For I can do everything God asks me to with the help of Christ who gives me the strength and power.”   Ephesians 3:16—“I pray that out of His glorious riches He may strengthen you with power through His Spirit in your inner being.”   He Gives Me The Power To
    • Influence People’s Lives
Acts 1:8—“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”
    • Resist Temptation
I Corinthians 10:13 (GN)—“But God keeps His promise…at the time you are put to the test, He will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.”
    • Endure Trials
Psalm 118:13-14 (CEV)—“Their attacks were so fierce that I nearly fell, but the Lord helped me. My power and my strength come from the Lord, and He has saved me.”
Romans 8:5, 8—“Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires…Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God.”   Galatians 5:16—“So I say, live by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature.”   Galatians 5:25—“Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.”   Galatians 5:19-23 (NLT)—“When you follow the desires of your sinful nature, the results are very clear: sexual immorality, impurity, lustful pleasures, idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God. But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…”   John 7:37-39 (NKJV)—“…‘If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’ But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive…”

    Are You Ready!
    Series: Unstoppable
UNSTOPPABLE—PART 8 “ARE YOU READY?” Pastor Andy Shaffer—July 23, 2017   Daniel 6:10—“…Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”   How To Develop A Lifestyle Of Prayer:
    • Listen To God!
Daniel 9:1-2 (NLT)—“It was the first year of the reign of Darius the Mede…who became king of the Babylonians. During the first year of his reign, I, Daniel, learned from reading the word of the Lord, as revealed to Jeremiah the prophet, that Jerusalem must lie desolate for seventy years.”   Jeremiah 29:10-12 (NLT)—“This is what the Lord says: ‘You will be in Babylon for seventy years. But then I will come and do for you all the good things I have promised, and I will bring you home again. For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. In those days when you pray, I will listen.’”   Two Reasons: God’s timing and my praying!
    • Focus On God!
Daniel 9:3 (NLT)—“So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and fasting…”   Jeremiah 29:13—“You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”   Hebrews 11:6—“And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him must believe that He exists and that He rewards those who earnestly seek Him.” Matthew 6:33—“But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”
    • Plead With God!
Daniel 9:3 (NLT)—“So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with Him in prayer and fasting…”   Jeremiah 50:4-5 (NLT)—“‘In those coming days,’ says the Lord, ‘the people of Israel will return home together with the people of Judah. They will come weeping and seeking the Lord their God. They will ask the way to Jerusalem and will start back home again. They will bind themselves to the Lord with an eternal covenant that will never be forgotten.’”
    • Thank God And Confess My Sin!
Daniel 9:4-6 (NLT)—“I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed: ‘O Lord, you are a great and awesome God! You always fulfill your covenant and keep your promises of unfailing love to those who love you and obey your commands. But we have sinned and done wrong. We have rebelled against you and scorned your commands and regulations. We have refused to listen to your servants the prophets, who spoke on your authority to our kings and princes and ancestors and to all the people of the land.’”   Daniel 9:8-14—“O Lord, we and our kings, princes, and ancestors are covered with shame because we have sinned against you. But the Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against Him. We have not obeyed the Lord our God, for we have not followed the instructions He gave us through His servants the prophets. All Israel has disobeyed your instruction and turned away, refusing to listen to your voice. You have kept your word and done to us and our rulers exactly as you warned…Every curse written against us in the Law of Moses has come true. Yet we have refused to seek mercy from the Lord our God by turning from our sins and recognizing His truth. Therefore, the Lord has brought upon us the disaster He prepared. The Lord our God was right to do all of these things, for we did not obey Him.’”   Daniel 9:18 (NLT)—“O my God, lean down and listen to me. Open your eyes and see our despair…We make this plea, not because we deserve help, but because of your mercy.”   Daniel 9:20-23—“While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel and making my request to the Lord my God…while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier vision, came to me in swift flight…He instructed me and said to me, ‘Daniel, I have now come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to pray, a word went out, which I have come to tell you, for you are highly esteemed…”
II Chronicles 7:14—“If my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and I will forgive their sin and will heal their land.”

    Stand Up!
    Series: Unstoppable
UNSTOPPABLE—PART 7 “STAND UP!” Pastor Andy Shaffer—July 16, 2017   Daniel Stood Out Because Of
    • His Professional Competence
Daniel 6:3—“Now Daniel so distinguished himself among the administrators and the satraps by his exceptional qualities that the king planned to set him over the whole kingdom.”
    • His Personal Character
Daniel 6:4—“At this, the administrators and the satraps tried to find grounds for charges against Daniel in his conduct of government affairs, but they were unable to do so. They could find no corruption in him, because he was trustworthy and neither corrupt nor negligent.”
    • His Public Commitment
Daniel 6:5—“Finally these men said, ‘We will never find any basis for charges against this man Daniel unless it has something to do with the law of his God.’”
The Trap: Daniel 6:6-9—“So these administrators and satraps went as a group to the king and said: ‘May King Darius live forever! The royal administrators…and governors have all agreed that the king should issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or human being during the next thirty days, except to you, Your Majesty, shall be thrown into the lions’ den. Now, Your Majesty, issue the decree and put it in writing so that it cannot be altered—in accordance with the law of the Medes and Persians, which cannot be repealed.’ So King Darius put the decree in writing.”     Daniel’s Response: Daniel 6:10-11—“Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. Then these men went as a group and found Daniel praying and asking God for help.”   What Gave Daniel The Courage To Stand Up?
    • He Remembered God’s Faithfulness!
    • He Had Regular Conversations With God!
Daniel 6:10—“…Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before.”   The Secret to Standing Strong is Kneeling Often!
    • He Knew The Rewards Were Greater Than The Risk!
Benefits Of Standing Up For Jesus:
    • It’s A Victory Over Fear!
Fear will grow when I give into it, but fear will lessen when I move against it!
    • It Builds My Faith And Character!
    II Timothy 1:8
(NLT)—“So never be ashamed to tell others about our Lord…With the strength God gives you, be ready to suffer with me for the sake of the Good News.”
    • It Gives God An Opportunity To Do a Miracle!
Daniel 6:19-23—“At the first light of dawn, the king got up and hurried to the lions’ den. When he came near the den, he called to Daniel in an anguished voice, ‘Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?’ Daniel answered, “May the king live forever! My God sent his angel, and He shut the mouths of the lions. They have not hurt me, because I was found innocent in his sight. Nor have I ever done any wrong before you, Your Majesty.’ The king was overjoyed and gave orders to lift Daniel out of the den. And when Daniel was lifted from the den, no wound was found on him, because he had trusted in his God.”
    • It Encourages Other Believers!
Philippians 1:14 (NLT)—“And because of my imprisonment, most of the believers here have gained confidence and boldly speak God’s message without fear.”
    • It’s A Powerful Example To Unbelievers!
Daniel 6:25-28—“Then King Darius wrote to all the nations and peoples of every language in all the earth: ‘May you prosper greatly! I issue a decree that in every part of my kingdom people must fear and reverence the God of Daniel. For He is the living God and He endures forever; His kingdom will not be destroyed, His dominion will never end. He rescues and He saves; He performs signs and wonders in the heavens and on the earth. He has rescued Daniel from the power of the lions.’ So Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and the reign of Cyrus the Persian.”

The Writing Is On The Wall
    Series: Unstoppable
UNSTOPPABLE—PART 6 “THE WRITING IS ON THE WALL!” Pastor Andy Shaffer—July 9, 2017   Daniel 5:1-5
(NLT)—“Many years later King Belshazzar gave a great feast for 1,000 of his nobles, and he drank wine with them. While Belshazzar was drinking the wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver cups that his predecessor, Nebuchadnezzar, had taken from the Temple in Jerusalem. He wanted to drink from them with his nobles, his wives, and his concubines. So they brought these gold cups taken from the Temple…and…drank from them. While they drank from them they praised their idols made of gold, silver, bronze, iron, wood, and stone. Suddenly, they saw the fingers of a human hand writing on the plaster wall of the king’s palace, near the lampstand. The king himself saw the hand as it wrote, and his face turned pale with fright. His knees knocked together in fear and his legs gave way beneath him.”
      Daniel 5:25
(NLT)—“This is the message that was written: Mene, mene, tekel, and Parsin.”
“Mene” = numbered; “Tekel” = weighed; “Parsin” = divided
    Daniel 5:30-31
(NLT)—“That very night Belshazzar, the Babylonian king, was killed. And Darius the Mede took over the kingdom at the age of sixty-two.”
      Daniel 5:12-13
(NLT)—“This man Daniel…has exceptional ability and is filled with divine knowledge and understanding. He can interpret dreams, explain riddles, and solve difficult problems. Call for Daniel, and he will tell you what the writing means. So Daniel was brought in before the king…”
      Daniel 5:14
(NLT)—“I have heard that you have the spirit of the gods within you and that you are filled with insight, understanding, and wisdom.”
To Be Wise Like Daniel, We Need To
    • Learn From Those Who Came Before Us!
Job 8:8-9 (CEV)—“Our ancestors were wise, so learn from them. Our own time has been short, like a fading shadow, and we know very little.”   I Corinthians 10:6-11 (GN)—“Now, all of this is an example for us, to warn us not to desire evil things, as they did, nor to worship idols, as some of them did…We must not be guilty of sexual immorality, as some of them were…We must not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did…We must not complain, as some of them did…All these things happened to them as examples for others, and they were written down as a warning for us...”
    • Be Teachable And Stay Humble!
Proverbs 15:33 (LB)—“Humility and reverence for the Lord will make you both wise and honored.”   James 4:6—“…‘God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.’”
    • Refuse To Fill Our Minds With Trash!
Proverbs 15:14 (NLT)—“A wise person is hungry for knowledge, while the fool feeds on trash.”
    • Put Into Practice What We’ve Already Learned!
Daniel 5:22-23 (CEV)—“King Belshazzar, you knew all of this, but you still refused to honor the Lord
who rules from heaven. Instead, you turned against him…You praised idols…even though they cannot see or hear or think. You refused to worship the God who gives you breath and controls everything you do.”
The Lesson: If I don’t humbly learn from the generations before me, I’m going to end up making the same mistakes.      I Timothy 6:21 (LB)—“Some of these people have missed the most important thing in life—they don’t know God…”

UNSTOPPABLE—PART 5 “THE TEST OF SUCCESS” Pastor Andy Shaffer—July 2, 2017   The Dream: Daniel 4:4-17 The Interpretation: Daniel 4:19-27   We Fail Because
    • We Get Comfortable And Complacent!
Daniel 4:4 (NLT)—“I, Nebuchadnezzar, was living in my palace in comfort and prosperity.”   Daniel 4:30 (NLT)—“As he looked out across the city, he said, ‘Look at this great city of Babylon! By my own mighty power, I have built this beautiful city as my royal residence to display my majestic splendor.’”   Proverbs 16:5
(NCV)—“The Lord hates those who are proud. They will surely be punished.”
    • We Don’t Pay Attention To The Warning Signs!
Daniel 4:27—“Therefore, Your Majesty, be pleased to accept my advice: Renounce your sins by doing what is right, and your wickedness by being kind to the oppressed. It may be that then your prosperity will continue.”
    • We Put Off Doing What We Know Is Right!
Daniel 4:28-33 (NCV)—“All these things happened to King Nebuchadnezzar. Twelve months later as he was walking on the roof of his palace in Babylon, he said, ‘I have built this great Babylon as my royal home. I built it by my power to show my glory and my majesty.’ The words were still in his mouth when a voice from heaven said, ‘King Nebuchadnezzar, these things will happen to you: Your royal power has been taken away from you. You will be forced away from people. You will live with the wild animals and will be fed grass like an ox. Seven years will pass before you learn this lesson: The Most High God rules over every kingdom on earth and gives those kingdoms to anyone he chooses.’ Immediately the words came true…”
    When I Fail, I Need To…
    • Look Up!
Daniel 4:34 (NLT)—“After this time had passed, I, Nebuchadnezzar, looked up to heaven…”
    • Wake Up and Worship!
Daniel 4:34 (NLT)—“…My sanity returned, and I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the One who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and his kingdom is eternal.”   Deuteronomy 8:2-20—“Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands. He humbled you…to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord…For the Lord your God is bringing you into a good land—a land…where bread will not be scarce and you will lack nothing; a land where the rocks are iron and you can dig copper out of the hills.
When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the Lord your God for the good land He has given you.
Be careful that you do not forget the Lord your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day. Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down…then your heart will become proud and you will forget the Lord your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery…You may say to yourself, ‘My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.’ But remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the ability to produce wealth…If you ever forget the Lord your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed. Like the nations the Lord destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the Lord your God.”   Lessons To Remember:
    • God’s Kingdom Will Outlast Everything I Do!
Daniel 4:34 (NLT)—“…I praised and worshiped the Most High and honored the One who lives forever. His rule is everlasting, and His kingdom is eternal.”
    • God’s Approval Matters More Than Anybody Else’s!
Daniel 4:35 (NLT)—“All the people of the earth are nothing compared to Him.
He does as He pleases among the angels of heaven and among the people of the earth.
No one can stop Him or say to Him, ‘What do you mean by doing these things?’”
    • God’s Bigger Than Anything I Might Face!
Daniel 4:35-37—“All the people of the earth are nothing compared to Him. He does as He pleases…No one can stop Him or say to Him, ‘What do you mean by doing these things?’ When my sanity returned to me, so did my honor and glory and kingdom…I was restored as head of my kingdom, with even greater honor than before. Now I, Nebuchadnezzar, praise and glorify and honor the King of heaven. All His acts are just and true, and He is able to humble the proud.’”
    • Speak Up and Tell How God’s Changed Me!
Daniel 4:1-2 (NLT)—“King Nebuchadnezzar sent this message to the people of every race and nation and language throughout the world: ‘Peace and prosperity to you! I want you all to know about the miraculous signs and wonders the Most High God has performed for me.’”

    The Heat Is On!
    Series: Unstoppable
UNSTOPPABLE—PART 4 “THE HEAT IS ON!” Pastor Andy Shaffer—June 25, 2017   Relevance Today:
    • The World Creates Images That People Worship!
    Daniel 3:1-7
(NLT)—“King Nebuchadnezzar made a gold statue ninety feet tall and nine feet wide…Then he sent messages to the high officers, officials, governors…and all the provincial officials to come to the dedication of the statue he had set up. So all these officials came and stood before the statue King Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Then a herald shouted out, ‘People of all races and nations and languages, listen to the king’s command! When you hear the sound of the horn…and other musical instruments, bow to the ground to worship King Nebuchadnezzar’s gold statue. Anyone who refuses to obey will immediately be thrown into a blazing furnace.’
So at the sound of the musical instruments, all the people…bowed to the ground and worshiped the gold statue that King Nebuchadnezzar had set up.”
    • If I Reject The World’s Images, People Will Try To Burn Me!
    Daniel 3:8-12
(GN)—“It was then that some Babylonians took the opportunity to denounce the Jews. They said to King Nebuchadnezzar, ‘May Your Majesty live forever! Your Majesty has issued an order that as soon as the music starts, everyone is to bow down and worship the gold statue, and that anyone who does not bow down and worship it is to be thrown into a blazing furnace. There are some Jews whom you put in charge of the province of Babylon—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego—who are disobeying Your Majesty's orders. They do not worship your god or bow down to the statue you set up.’”
    • If I Do The Right Thing, Some People Will Get Angry!
Daniel 3:13-15 (NLT)—“Then Nebuchadnezzar flew into a rage
and ordered that Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego be brought before him. When they were brought in, Nebuchadnezzar said to them, ‘Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, that you refuse to serve my gods or to worship the gold statue I have set up? I will give you one more chance to bow down and worship the statue I have made…But if you refuse, you will be thrown immediately into the blazing furnace. And then what god will be able to rescue you from my power?’”
When The Heat Is On, I
    • Don’t Worry About Defending Myself.
Daniel 3:16 (NLT)—“Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego replied, ‘O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you.’”
    • Remember God Has The Power To Save Me!
Daniel 3:17 (NLT): “If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us…”
    • Believe God Will Save Me!
Daniel 3:17 (NLT)—“…He will rescue us
    from your power, Your Majesty.”
    • Announce My Loyalty To God No Matter What!
Daniel 3:18 (NLT)—“But even if He doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you, Your Majesty, that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”   Daniel 3:19
(NLT)—“Nebuchadnezzar was so furious with Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego that his face became distorted with rage. He commanded that the furnace be heated seven times hotter than usual.”
Daniel 3:20-23 (NLT)—“Then he ordered some of the strongest men of his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego and throw them into the blazing furnace. So they tied them up and threw them into the furnace
…And because the king, in his anger, had demanded such a hot fire in the furnace, the flames killed the soldiers as they threw the three men in. So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, securely tied, fell into the roaring flames.”
      When I Trust God
    • God Walks With Me Through The Fire.
    Daniel 3:24-25
(NLT)—“But suddenly, Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in amazement and exclaimed to his advisers, ‘Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace?’ ‘Yes, Your Majesty, we certainly did,’ they replied.
‘Look!’ Nebuchadnezzar shouted. ‘I see four men, unbound, walking around in the fire unharmed! And
the fourth looks like a god!’”
Isaiah 43:2-3 (NLT)—“When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…”
    • God Burns Off What’s Tying Me Down!
    Daniel 3:24-25
(NLT)—Nebuchadnezzar: “Didn’t we tie up three men and throw them into the furnace…I see four men, unbound…”
    • God Protects Me And Equips Me To Be His Witness!
Daniel 3:26-27 (NLT)—“Then Nebuchadnezzar came as close as he could to the door of the flaming furnace and shouted: ‘Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!’ So Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego stepped out of the fire. Then the high officers, officials, governors, and advisers crowded around them and saw that the fire had not touched them. Not a hair on their heads was singed, and their clothing was not scorched. They didn’t even smell of smoke!”   Daniel 3:28 (NLT)—“Then Nebuchadnezzar said, ‘Praise to the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel to rescue his servants who trusted in Him. They defied the king’s command and were willing to die rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.’”   Daniel 3:29-30 (NLT)—“‘Therefore, I make this decree: If any people, whatever their race or nation or language, speak a word against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, they will be torn limb from limb, and their houses will be turned into heaps of rubble. There is no other god who can rescue like this!’ Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to even higher positions in the province of Babylon.”

    • Provide Encouragement!
Colossians 3:21 (NLT)—“Fathers, don’t aggravate your children. If you do, they will become discouraged and quit trying.”   We Aggravate Our Children By
    • Being Overly Protective
    • Being Overly Permissive
    • Showing Favoritism
    • Setting Unrealistic Goals and Expectations
    • Neglecting Them
    • Excessive Discipline
      We Encourage Our Children By
    • Valuing them equally
    • Making them a high priority
    • Being a positive example to them
    • Blessing them
    • Provide Nurture!
Proverbs 22:6 (GW)—“Train a child in the way he should go, and even when he is old he will not turn away from it.”   “Train”= “to place on the palate”
    • Provide Discipline!
Proverbs 13:24 (NCV)—“If you do not punish your children, you don’t love them, but if you love your children, you will correct them.”   Proverbs 19:18
(NLT)—“Discipline your children while there is hope. Otherwise you will ruin their lives.”
Proverbs 22:15; Proverbs 23:13-14; Proverbs 29:15   Hebrews 12:11—“No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
    • Provide Instruction!
    Deuteronomy 6:1-9
Moses said: “…so that you, your children and their children after them may fear the Lord your God as long as you live by keeping all His decrees and commands that I give you, and so that you may enjoy long life…Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength…Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.”
    Malachi 4:6
—“He will turn the hearts of the fathers to their children, and the hearts of the children to their fathers, or else I will come and strike the land with a curse.”

    Can You Handle It?
    Series: Unstoppable
UNSTOPPABLE—PART 1 “CAN YOU HANDLE IT?” Pastor Andy Shaffer—June 4, 2017   “Before every blessing there’s always a testing!” Daniel 1:1-8“In the third year of the reign of Jehoiakim king of Judah, Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon came to Jerusalem and besieged it. And the Lord delivered Jehoiakim king of Judah into his hand, along with some of the articles from the temple of God…Then the king ordered Ashpenaz, chief of his court officials, to bring into the king’s service some of the Israelites from the royal family and the nobility—young men without any physical defect, handsome, showing aptitude for every kind of learning, well informed, quick to understand, and qualified to serve in the king’s palace. He was to teach them the language and literature of the Babylonians. The king assigned them a daily amount of food and wine from the king’s table. They were to be trained for three years, and after that they were to enter the king’s service. Among those who were chosen were some from Judah: Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah. The chief official gave them new names: to Daniel, the name Belteshazzar; to Hananiah, Shadrach; to Mishael, Meshach; and to Azariah, Abednego. But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”   Character Qualities That Bring Promotion:
    • Integrity: He Never Forgot Who He Was!
Daniel 1:8“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself…”  Romans 12:2—“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.”
    • Discipline: He Controlled His Ego And Appetite!
Daniel 1:8—“But Daniel resolved not to defile himself with the royal food and wine, and he asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way.”   Romans 6:13 (LB)—“Do not let any part of your bodies become tools of wickedness, to be used for sinning; but give yourselves completely to God—every part of you…to be tools in the hands of God, to be used for His good purposes.”
    • Courage: He Was Willing To Stand Alone!
    Exodus 23:2
(NLT)—“You must not follow the crowd in doing wrong…”
I Corinthians 16:13—“Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong.”
    • Humility: He Was Respectful To Those In Authority!
Daniel 1:8-19—“But Daniel…asked the chief official for permission not to defile himself this way. Now God had caused the official to show favor and compassion to Daniel, but the official told Daniel, ‘I am afraid of my lord the king, who has assigned your food and drink. Why should he see you looking worse than the other young men your age? The king would then have my head because of you.’ Daniel then said to the guard whom the chief official had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, ‘Please test your servants for ten days: Give us nothing but vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then compare our appearance with that of the young men who eat the royal food, and treat your servants in accordance with what you see.’ So he agreed to this and tested them for ten days. At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food. So the guard took away their choice food and the wine they were to drink and gave them vegetables instead…At the end of the time set by the king to bring them into his service, the chief official presented them to Nebuchadnezzar. The king talked with them, and he found none equal to Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah; so they entered the king’s service.”   II Corinthians 6:14-7:1
(Message)—“Don’t become partners with those who reject God. How can you make a partnership out of right and wrong? That’s not partnership; that’s war. Is light best friends with dark? Does Christ go strolling with the Devil? Do trust and mistrust hold hands? Who would think of setting up pagan idols in God’s holy Temple? But that is exactly what we are, each of us a temple in whom God lives. God Himself put it this way:
‘I’ll live in them, move into them; I’ll be their God and they’ll be my people. So leave the corruption and compromise; leave it for good,’ says God. ‘Don’t link up with those who will pollute you. I want you all for myself. I’ll be a Father to you; you’ll be sons and daughters to me.’ The Word of the Master, God. With promises like this to pull us on, dear friends, let’s make a clean break with everything that defiles or distracts us, both within and without. Let’s make our entire lives fit and holy temples for the worship of God.”
